Pushing Against

"PUSH, PUSH,  PUSH  AGAINST IT!"   That's what we here from our peers and society at large. Pushing against something is what we are addicted to in this  nation of humans . We love pushing against things. We push against the perceived bad that we think is threatening our well being. And if there is well being, or goodness, we insist on make it last as long as we possibly can, which is the same as pushing against the goodness from ending. We push against the bad that we suppose is pending just behind the good, no wonder good moments elude us most often and the bad seem to be our usual companions.. Pushing against, that's really something we've grown accustomed to. In this human society we are so well taught to push against things. If you have feelings for a (wo)man and you're a (wo)man, you must push against it. for it is not "natural"..If you still love your ex, even if s/he broke your heart, you must not feel it, push against it, and never a...

A MAN CAN CHOOSE TO BE ANYTHING

"A man can choose to be anything. He can partake in, be a part of anything that he wants to. He can become a beast, he can become a god. He can do anything." This thought keeps reappearing in all the writings of man. It states that we become what we choose to become whether we realise it or not. This is so true because as I grow older, I notice just how broad my being is. BEING : the continuous movement of becoming!! As a high school pupil I only saw myself as a math and science student whose aim was to be a master of science and nothing more. And then in  first year varsity I noticed my perception   grew   from a science student to one whose aim was to be a respectable chemical engineering professional, then suddenly I noticed that not only do I love science, but I have a proclivity for some business,  philosophy and even writing who knew!! And then that grew to psychology, which grew to  philosophy and spirituality and all of this my high-school-year old...

Unity versus Separation

“What are we exactly here for then?” those were the words that came out of my friend's mouth during our bus ride to work. “Like really, if God knows everything that I am thinking and going to think,  then what’s the point of this? Why do you think we are here?”... Silenced by the question for a moment, I suddenly felt an answer formulating inside me and the answer was, “Well, yeah sure, that which you call God knows all things, but the purpose of life is nothing more than for us to live out what God knows. Everything is already known, so we are here to live and experience the knowing of that which is known.” Silence came upon us for a moment to process the craziness that had just come out of my mouth. He then further asked, “So where do you think we go when we die, where does heaven and hell really fit in?” I then  laid out  my answer in this manner: “the purpose of life is to experience the diverse unity of all things. And that separation is an illusion that is placed b...

Will, Fern, and the Power of Encouragement ~ Michael Josephson

Two frogs named Will and Fern fell into a deep pit together. At first, they thought it would be easy to jump out. But after lots of failed attempts they cried for help and a crowd of animals gathered around the pit. Everyone agreed it was hopeless so they urged Will and Fern to accept their fate. The harder the trapped frogs jumped, the more the crowd yelled at them to give up. Finally, Will stopped trying. Fern refused to quit and with one mighty try she leaped out of the pit. The crowd was amazed. Someone asked her why she kept trying when everyone told her she had no chance. Fern was baffled. “What are you saying?” she asked. “I’m a bit deaf. I was sure you were all cheering me on. I couldn’t have done it without your encouragement.” I learned of this story from a woman who was in a transitional housing program recovering from a long period of drug abuse, homelessness and hopelessness. She wanted everyone to understand how important positivism and encouragement can be...

Are You A Pink Elephant?

Once upon a time a  pink elephant  was born. He was so clearly different from the rest that soon the grey elephants started to distance themselves and ignore him. The little pink elephant felt very sad and rejected. He realized that in order to fit in with the rest of the herd he had to be just like them. So, he covered himself with mud and dirt until he became a dirty grey. Throughout the years he kept covering himself and hiding behind the dirt. Then one day, rain began pouring down and washed away all the mud and dirt from his body. He was pink again! The grey elephants turned and started laughing at the sight of his obvious pinkness. As the laughter grew louder he realized that he was trying to fit into a group that would never understand him. He knew that he was different and that he needed to find a group of pink elephants just like him, where he would be accepted and learn to love himself as he was. Imagine yourself as an “ Elephant”,  the largest lan...

NEXT LEVEL LISTENING ~ Robin Sharma

People ache for great listening. Do you give it to them? I so passionately believe that one of the single best things you can do to get your relationships (both professional and personal) to world-class is to become alarmingly good at listening. Yup-alarmingly good is the standard I'm pressing you to reach. As a young lawyer, I worked with a senior litigator who was just "insanely great" (Steve Jobs term) at making people feel heard. It wasn't forced. It wasn't faked. It wasn't artificial. Just a truckload of masterful, heartfelt listening every time I was with him. And guess what, that was the best professional relationship I had at that office. I'd do anything for him. He had my respect. And my loyalty. And my outright friendship. Because I knew (versus believed) he cared. Listening's like that. Seems like simple stuff, this listening business. But it's outrageously hard in a world where we can be so self-centered. And in a world where we all suf...

LEAN IN TO IT!

FEAR AS GROWTH "Fear can be scary. When it surfaces, we are wired to run. To avoid it. To consider it as a bad thing. Not true. In my mind fear is beautiful. An opportunity. A gift. On the other side of every fear that is keeping you small is your natural power (and your authentic greatness). To run from your fear is to run from the brilliance you were meant to be. A fear is nothing more than a doorway into the highest version of your highest vision. The things that scare you are spectacular opportunities to discover more of all you are meant to be. Fear isn't bad. Nope. It's all good. Leads to confidence (if you do what you fear). Leads to self-respect. Promotes growth. Makes you better. So today, at work or at home, if something comes up that causes you to feel like running/avoiding/resisting, don't make a beeline for the door. Instead, show up like the leader you truly can be – and embrace the opportunity you've been presented. Because what you resist will persi...
