THE POWERS OF THE MIND ARE THE POWERS OF THE MAN

The powers of the mind are the powers of the man . And building the powers of the mind is largely an after school job. It is spare time job. This is why developing the powers of the mind are not necessarily dependent on a formal education. A good liberal education is a best start of you are lucky enough to get one. A good base of English, world history and world literature, and maths are fundamental in developing the really powers of the mind, the very subjects so many young people dread and work so hard to avoid. The powers of the mind are the powers of the man. ~ Scott Buchanan Once in a talk Buchanan delivered at Saint John’s College he asked, “ How are you doing? Do you believe in and trust your intellect, that innate power that never sleeps? You've lived a lot; you've fallen into the hands of scholars, and into the grooves of practice. You've suffered the winds of doctrine and have gotten lost in the jungle of ideologies. A lot of you have been stormed by scientific m

THE POWER OF DISCIPLINE

Self discipline . The only trait that separates successful and powerful people from those who aren't. Not some magic formula, or luck from the heavens. Self discipline . Self governance.  I felt  it is such an important topic to talk about that t hought  I share some of  the key notes or wisdom I've gathered on this matter. So here we go. “The price of discipline is greater than the pain of regret” ~ Robin Sharma  How often have you had the experience of regretting doing something or not doing it solely because of lack of self control or were not self motivated enough to actually carry out? Yeah i have been there and now and again do trod that trail. I am working on it just as i suggest you do believe me. Another thing that i think it is important to remember is that, "When you constantly practise self governance there will be no hurdle too high to overcome. No challenge too tough to surmount. And no crisis too hot to cool down. Self discipline will provide you with the

THE ROAD TO UPINGTON

Recently I was on a road trip to Upington, a town in Northern Cape in South Africa, to a friend's engagement party. Upington is known for being one of the hottest places in the country. And as hot as it was, and as far and as long as the drive was, I decided to just take the task that was before me with the eyes of curiosity and wonder of what lies out on the stretch of road. I always love going on adventures and travelling to places I've never been (a very effective way to keep life always interesting and fresh).  A full nine hour minibus drive I finally reached my destination. First time here, and I arrived at the “wee” hours of the morning, 4 a.m. to meet my ever-so-special-and-crazy friend whom I have never met but have been friends for six years (he was counting) via Facebook alone. There was no catching up to be made either than on my sleep, then by seven in the morning we hit the ground strutting. I didn’t plan to do anything except eat and watch to loving people get eng

MISTY VALLEY

After the weekend on the road to Upington and back,  Monday morning I was off again with my supervisor  to the mountains of  Mpumalanga (meaning "where the sun rises"). Bags were packed and I had made reservation for us to a lodge called Misty Valley Lodge ( I need to mention the name because its an important bit of information to remember.) So the trip was for work purposes. I was heading to the mines to do some process work auditing (if you didn't know, i am an engineer also) My drive from Johannesburg to Mpumalang was sunny, easy and not as long as that one I had taken to go to Upington . A two and a half hour drive and i was near may destination, then the most  bizarre  thing happened. The weather, out of nowhere shifted from bright and sunny to full blown Misty. Yep,  that's  it! I had entered the vicinity leading to MISTY VALLEY LODGE!! Breath taken by the sudden change and the revelation of why its called misty valley (there was nothing on the brochure about

“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” ~ Gandhi.  How often have you had the thought of changing the world? If you are anything like me, I have it more often than I have a glass of warm milk with cookies (okay that’s wacky...anyway). Or maybe it is something more like,” how can one act make a difference?” but all to often for many people another thought creeps in, “Who am I? I am just a small drop in the ocean.” (see the picture on the left) Or, “It takes a really special, gifted, and powerful person to even think of changing the world. And “ I am neither special nor gifted, let alone powerful.” If you think you are too small to make a difference, try going to sleep with the mosquito in the room" ~ Dalai Lama Like me, you’ve probably have looked at legendary people who are making it and thought, “what is it that they have that I don’t or lack.” And the answer is – they have the conviction that they can make a difference; that they are an immense and integral part

What kind of world do you want to live in?

What kind of world do you want to live in? Think about that question for a good full minute.... okay  15 seconds. Really, what kind of world do you want to live in? I'm certain that you have an idea or ideas of what you would prefer it to be like. Maybe you would like a world where love reigns supreme? What about a world with no fear? Or could it be a world where you're loved unconditionally and abundantly and everyone is aware of how connected to each other they really are. What is it?   Think about this question because it is really important. "What kind of a world would I like to live in!?" For your answer determines what shape and state the world will assume . You may not believe this. Or like many people, you may not think you have such a power or influence.   Do you know people  who, no matter how the world may look to the many,  seem to live in their own make up and thus had influence the mass into their world. Do you know people who, no matter how ba
